Connect the Dots│"Alternative Truth"

Someone stop the world, I’m spinning!

I guess consciousness really is a gift and a curse and lately it seems to be more of a burden than anything else. Watching the election across the sea was a really depressing shit-show which just reminded me how deeply we’ve gotten into the “this is my team and I hate your team” field. It goes beyond the childish behaviour of Donald Trump (and childish is one of the few thousand adjectives I could use to describe him), beyond the total political divide which bears no objective value but stems from extreme partisan loyalty, it goes beyond the fact we’ve forgotten about the ecological atom bomb which awaits us… it goes to the Nietzsche-ian sense of existential dread, the nihilism which has deeply embedded itself into our homes, the homes we couldn’t leave due to the epidemic.

Oh yes, that little thing. The virus that froze us. How we handle this threat as a society is another nail in the coffin of the nihilistic dread. Reading about the conspiracy theories (the 5G mega threat, “virus isn’t real”, “it’s just the flu”) was a rollercoaster of absolute disbelief. It’s like seeing Youtube videos about flat earth. It boggles the mind how we got to this point. Anything said by anyone in a white suit is wrong because they’re paid by big pharma. Science is just the medium of the rich and powerful to manipulate us into mindless monkeys so they can… I don’t know what actually, usually these videos end with the second coming of Christ or the impending apocalypse… and we made it back to climate change, ironically.

Common sense was never common, was it? That’s always been a phrase equal to “when pigs fly”, an impossibility which we just didn’t realise was the case with this one. Common sense is an oxymoron, the rarest of traits, something which only a few develop or possess. Those who do have it seem the quietest, not willing to be a part of the shouting match but rather stay on the sidelines and observe the truly brainwashed who yell their hearts out with nonsense. I’m sure that from a certain (perhaps divine) distance, this show is very entertaining. It really sucks to be a part of it though.

Nihilism won’t solve or help anything. Falling to this shadow is just the end we never imagined. Not with destructive fireworks, smoke and fire, but a species falling asleep and dying mid dream. So what can we do as individuals, you who is reading this and me?

Big steps don’t exist, not for you and me. We don’t have the power to change the world, what we can do is effect people around us, the ones near us (don’t forget about social distancing). When you hear about obvious misinformation, correct them. When you notice a friend falling down the social media rabbit hole, check them and bring them back. Educate others and allow yourself to be educated. We all live in our little bubbles without realising how misinformed we are. Perhaps most importantly: do this all with kindness.

None of us have a moral pedestal. Knowing and understanding something someone else doesn’t, doesn’t make you superior, it just makes you more informed and knowledgable. in fact, you become an idiot when you hoard that knowledge and understanding for the purposes of exclusivity and elitism. So, when confronted with lies, kindly respond with the truth. When challenged, kindly retort. Basically, kill them with kindness… and understanding. Plenty of that.

Ramble mode off. This piece was a rant which I had to get off my chest, both visually and verbally. Better now, thanks for spending your precious minutes with me.
